My Friend: Kelly the Bad Ass- A Series on Roller Derby

I have a cool friend. I know we all have them, but this one wows me on regular occasions. It could be her self made company where she jets off to San Fran…or the fact that she is a Super Mama of two (very active) boys…it might even be her die hard Michigan State Alum ways that I admire so much and the fact that she can still tailgate like a pro. But really- probably the ‘coolest’ thing about her now is that she is a heavy duty- no holds barred, hard core Roller Derby Queen.

I am going to do a series of posts on my friend Kelly and Roller Derby. As I started looking into it- I find it absolutely fascinating, and I can only begin to

Thx to Blackout Bettie for the pic!

understand why my friend has become so in tune with this sport. Because it IS a SPORT. I was reading around the web at a few derby sites- and wow. Just holy cow how cool. It makes me want to do it…but like everything else I want to do, right now is just not the time.

So- I am going to be doing some more digging, possibly go to a local match- but hopefully catch one with my friend Kelly next week while we are in Michigan for the holiday. I am so excited to see first hand what she does, it’s entirely a world within itself and I am pretty excited to write about it.

This better end with you doing roller derby yourself or I’m gonna be disappointed.
Does Kelly need any more BFFs? I’m guessing she already has a few… but if she needs one more I’m avail.

That would be awesome. I found my local team, but am soooo out of shape. I’m excited to look into it though! And Kelly is so cool, she probably has room. And can teach you how to hip check while she’s at it.

Did you ever watch that series a few years back, I think it was called Derby Girls? The show followed team San Antonio. It was very cool to watch.

I need to- that was done in Ann Arbor by Drew Barrymore!
