‘Go West, Mama!’ Review & Giveaway: Country Outfitter

by farrah on June 15, 2012 · 132 comments

Here at Country Outfitter, we know that Western wear is about a lot more than a fancy pair of boots.  Although you obviously want classic Western styling in hats, boots, jeans, and shirts, your clothing needs to be functional enough to take you from a long day on the ranch to a long night at the rodeo show.  That’s why Country Outfitter carries only the best brands, and stocks clothing that knows how to work hard and play hard.  We carry men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing and boots to enable us to offer unbeatable quality and value to the whole family.  With boots for stable cleaning, boots for riding, and boots to just be comfortable and look great, we have all of your needs covered.

Country Outfitter may be correct in that quality western wear is more than just a pair of fancy boots, but what kind of cowgirl send off event would this be without featuring the most important piece of her wardrobe? You got it- this post is all about the boots. It just so happens that as I was ready to feature this finale of my event- we were heading over the pond to the Netherlands. Of course I had to take my boots with me. I knew that I was going to be doing quite a bit of walking, so what better test could I put through some boots than the streets of a small European town?

For starters- let me back up and tell you a little bit about Country Outfitter. As someone who has never really shopped for western goods before- I didn’t know where to start. I knew that I was looking for a reputable store that sold Ariat boots- so after googling them- Country Outfitter popped right up. I went to their site to see what they were all about and was thrilled with their selection of boots and otherwise. They carry about 14 different brands in women’s boots alone. You can search by material, collection, size, height and features just to name a few of the many options. Since I knew what I wanted for my trip to Wyoming, it wasn’t difficult for me to narrow down my choices, although here are just a ‘few’ of my favorites!

The Boots:

I chose a beautiful pair of  Women’s Heritage Western R Toe Boot in the  Brown Oiled Rowdy color ($139).

The West is home, and these are its boots. They feature a classic R-toe for a spirited look steeped in Cowgirl country tradition. An elegant stitch pattern, dress rubber sole, and the comfortable ATS footbed make this a wonderful boot for a day, or night, on the town.

These are the first adult pair of cowgirl boots I have ever owned. When I was younger (much younger- like 7 years old younger), my grandfather gave me a pair of brown and black Ariat boots for Christmas. I loved them. I wore them all of the time and I refused to admit they were too small for me when it was clear that I had outgrown them. Not sure why- but I haven’t thought about having boots as an adult until now. Of course I feel like I’ve been missing out all these years.

Thoughts on the pair I chose to review: No complaints. They’re beautiful, rugged and really, really ARE comfortable. As I mentioned I brought them with me to the Netherlands to put them to the true walking test. The ATS footbed really did cushion and support my foot. The heel was perfect- not too tall and not too short. They aren’t overly ‘stiff’ either- I have some work to do with breaking them in, but wearing them isn’t painful so that shouldn’t be a problem for when it’s time I take them out on the range.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time poking around the Country Outfitter site. It’s easy to navigate- and fun to browse. I’ve noticed that on their blog they have announced some changes will be coming next month to their site which sound quite exciting. To be exact, they are going to offer a ‘shopping experience’ which I think anyone who prefers their shopping to be online- would appreciate. Best of luck to you Country Outfitter- you’ve been a pleasure and a delight to work with and I can’t wait to see all of the fabulous changes! I’ll be doing a follow up post in July to check in on them and see how they’ve grown.

Connect: Connect with Country Outfitter on Facebook, Twitter and of course Pinterest!

Buy It: You can buy the Ariat boots like mine right on the site for $139, or choose from the hundreds of others as well.

Win It! One very, very lucky reader will be able to win a pair of boots of choice  up to $150!!

I had surgery on my left ankle so cute shoes have been a thing of the past for me no more heels or wedges 🙁 but cowboy boots would be perfect cute, fun, wear with everything, and supportive for my ankle! but so far they are hard to find-so i need to either find a pair with zippers or have a zipper put in my left boot! and now the tough part is choosing one pair! i do love these though!

I have been eying these EXACT boots for a while, so it’s really awesome to see real photos (and not just the stock product photos) of them on a real person. Thanks so much for posting this review! I was initially drawn to the Ariat Legend in this color (the brown oiled rowdy) and found the fit to be pretty good because of the square toe (I have wide feet), but was really hoping for a rounder toe.

How did you find the fit on these boots? Wide enough?

Reply

127 farrah September 7, 2012 at 5:49 pm

Hey Helly!

I really love the fit of these boots. I do have a narrow foot- at least in my heel, and I wore thick riding socks- and still had some room. If you traditionally go with a wide size shoe though, I’m really not sure. I usually wear an 8 1/2 and got these in a 7 1/2, so if you went with your regular size they might just be perfect! Also- I tried them on at a shop (where they were also marked way up) so I had a sense of their sizing. I do find their square toe to be much wider, but these rounder ones are not quite as tight as the ‘super’ narrow toe. Does that help at all??? Let me know what you end up getting and what you think!!

Reply

128 Helly September 7, 2012 at 7:08 pm

Thanks so much for the feedback! One of the first pairs a salesman had me try on at a local store was a Lucchese with the super-pointed toe– ouch! Definitely a no-go, even in a purported “wide” width.

I also tried on the Ariat Legend in a store, but couldn’t find the Heritage Western in this particular color. I did try it in black and distressed brown, and those seemed to fit okay, but I’ve also learned from experience that different COLORS of shoes can fit differently, even though they’re the exact same brand and style!

Right now I’m awaiting a shipment from Zappos, we’ll see how that goes. I’ll definitely keep you posted once I settle on one! 🙂

Me again 🙂

I got my shipment from Zappos last night. Got two pairs: the Ariat Legend in brown oiled rowdy and the Heritage Western R Toe in distressed brown. And the first thing I noticed about both of them (esp the taller Heritage Western)? The shaft is incredibly stiff!

This was especially noticeable around my ankles– I felt like I was walking around with two stiff boards on the side of each ankle, it didn’t give and conform to my ankles, so they just kept hitting these “boards” and feeling mighty uncomfortable.

Did you have a similar problem with shaft stiffness? I know that leather boots take some time to break in, and the foot portion is fairly comfortable already, so I’m confident that will mold just fine, but I’m a bit worried about the shaft, especially since it’s a bit wide around the calf area for me. I’m hoping the shaft will mold as well as the rest of the foot, and was wondering if that had been your experience as well?
