What I’m Drinking Friday..Mojito Madness!

I’ll admit it. I currently have a mojito addiction.

In fact, I would call it a full blown craving right now- as I am having one a night. Usually. Occasionally I might have two.

But darn it- these things are SO GOOD there can’t be any booze in them!? Right?

Well…since I am the bartender, I know darn well there is- but you would never, ever know it. They’re that smooth. And I am NOT a rum person.

So this recipe was the beginning of the end for me on that bachelorette weekend I attended oh so long ago. I’m sharing it because it’s frankly, the easiest and best recipe for mojitos that I have ever had. Thanks Vern!

Ingredients:

– 1.5 oz  Brazilian Rum (instead of Puerto Rican- honestly, it’s just so much smoother) Try Cacha Brand.

-12 fresh spearmint leaves (simple trick: soak mint leaves in ice water to ‘refresh’ them for a few minutes if they are wilted or dried out)

-1/2 lime (I love my lemon/lime hand juicer. I have used it countless times since purchasing years ago! You can find it at BBB and most culinary stores)

– 7 oz club soda

-2 tbsp. simple syrup (or 4 tsp. sugar)

For the smoothest mojitos, gently crush mint leaves and lightly squeeze lime in a tall glass. Pour sweet syrup on top to cover lime/mint mixture.

Fill glass with ice. Add rum, club soda, and stir your mojito well.

Garnish with a lime wedge, a few sprigs of mint, toast, sip, and enjoy!

 

–Personally I find that the amount of effort in making these fine cocktails prevents me from consuming too many. Besides, I really, really love how these taste and one is good for me. I cannot be responsible if you find that the lack of boozy-taste causes you to overindulge. This is your warning!

I love mojitos so much. I need to try this recipe….i tried to make one recently but totally half-assed it. It was…meh.
