Shock Top is a traditional Belgian-Style wheat ale. It was originally created in 2006 as a seasonal brew under the name Spring Heat Spiced Wheat. After collecting gold in ’06 and bronze in ’07 in the Belgian White category at the North American Beer Awards, we decided to brew year-round and switch the name to Shock Top. We couldn’t be happier with our decision.
I have a serious thing for Belgian wheat beers. So far on ‘What I’m Drinking Friday’ I’m pretty sure that I’ve already told you about my Oberon and Blue Moon addiction…well, I can add this lovely orange-y beer to my list. I just discovered it this year and can’t seem to get enough.
Summery, light, frothy and smooth- I love it. I usually drink a bottle with at least one orange wedge. I don’t know what it is about the orange- but it just tastes SO GOOD.
The very large wine glass was a gift from a friend of mine- post first baby. It said ‘Mommy’s Sippy Cup’ on it. Sadly, most of the writing has worn off in time. Or use. Ahem.
Here’s what they say about Shock Top Belgian White:
We’ve shaken up traditional tastes by brewing a spiced Belgian-style wheat ale with real orange, lemon and lime peels, and then added a little coriander spice to the mix. This uniquely-crafted and award-winning ale is unfiltered to create a brew that is naturally cloudy with a light golden color and a smooth, refreshing finish.
Shock Top has collected awards in consecutive years at the North American Beer Awards.
North American Beer Awards (NABA) – Belgian Wit (White) category 2006 Gold (entered as Spring Heat Spiced Wheat)
North American Beer Awards (NABA) – Belgian Wit (White) category 2007 Bronze (entered as Spring Heat Spiced Wheat)–from Shocktopbeer.com
I love the aroma of coriander and citrus that meets your nose when you pour this bottle into a glass. It’s simply ‘summer’. If you’re looking for something new to try, I highly recommend this one. I picked it up at our local Publix grocery store for around $7.00 a 6-pack. Don’t forget the orange!
There’s no sponsoring of the What I’m Drinking Friday posts…however, I am open to donations for future spotlights!

Sounds delicious. That will be the next beer I buy. I love a good beer!
It’s awesome- you have to let me know what you think after you try it!
Okay, so my favorite beer is Blue Moon. I even have t-shirts to prove it. 😉 It is Coors version of Anheuser-Busch’s Shocktop. I just started out with Blue Moon because it was out first or at least more readily available and when I saw that slice of orange, I was sold!!
When are we getting one together?! 🙂
Tell me about it! We had a Blue Moon tin sign in the garage for the longest time. That’s my first and foremost fave. Nice taste my friend!
Yum! I’m a beer girl, and love me Sams and Harps and most other lovely brews!
I get so excited fo fall when Octoberfest pops his head out and then again i the spring for some yummy summerale! O Sam knows his stuff!
I agree! Blue Moon makes a winter ale that I just love every year when it gets cold. You like them pretty dark, right? Harps is one from the days of yore…
