What I’m Drinking Friday…MYO Sparkling Wine

I wasn’t in the mood for a champagne, a bottled sparkling wine, or a bubbly wine cooler. I didn’t want sweet. So I asked my husband- who also bar-tended a time or two in his previous life- ‘How do I make a sparkling wine?’

We were at the neighborhood pool and I asked him as we were leaving. A kind and helpful neighbor told me that I needed to add Sprite.

I was skeptical. I knew Sprite was sweet- and that wasn’t what I was looking for. I decided to try it anyhow and it was. Blech. I then wondered if I was looking for the bubbles of soda or tonic- neither seemed to be exactly what I wanted so I kind of forgot about it.

And then it got really, really hot. I wanted something iced down and refreshing.

We had to get out of the house, so we went to Costco late on Sunday afternoon. Not my idea of a good time- but it was hot and miserable so we went. We walked around pretty aimlessly for a while- buying random things that we did not need (jeans, some 100 calorie snack packs in bulk size) and then I saw a case of La Croix Flavored Sparkling Water in cans- for $5.99.

My husband, ever being the logical one- asked if that was wise considering I had never tried their water before- but I assured him that I’d drink it either way. And at practically $6 it was a steal.

I had a case of orange, lime, and lemon water. No sodium, no sugar and no coloring. I saw that it was carbonated and that was all that mattered.

Well- I am IN LOVE. It’s just what I wanted. A freshly opened can of something bubbly- with just a hint of flavor. Basically there is just enough to mildly smell the aroma. I pour a glass of my Tangent Viognier white wine (but any white will do) on ice and fill as much as I want with the sparkling water. It’s refreshing, it’s cold, not sweet- and exactly what I was looking for. My wine with a little oomph.

If you’re looking to add a little ‘refreshing’ to your wine this hot summer- try it. Look for a sparkling water with a hint of flavor (no sweetner, color, etc) adn just add as much as you want. Also- this is a fantastic way to cover exactly how much you are drinking. Haha! Just kidding. But really, it is.

What’s your favorite libation to cool down with?

Cheers!

As always absolutely nothing is sponsored in this WID post. That’s not to say I’m not open to the idea, however.

I’ve just discovered it- it’s perfect! I think it could even work as a splash in a vodka/cranberry cocktail too.

It is! Highly recommended. You know it’s good if you still like it without the wine 🙂
