Hmm… so what is something that a travel junkie needs? If your first thought was a great piece of luggage then you’re correct. It’s difficult to travel without a great bag. Sure, it can be done- but there is often wrestling, fighting, shoving, pushing and bouncing involved if you’re dealing with a bag that sucks.

When I went to Reviewer’s Retreat in June- I met the good folks from eBags and talked to them about what gear they might suggest for someone in my situation- traveling a bunch in the summer and then come fall- moving, big time. They told me about their packing cubes– which are perfect for the boys and keeping everyone’s stuff straight- and their ‘Mother’ of all bags, the ‘Mother Lode’. This is not a name you give to something lightly. It has to earn a name like that, and my friends- it lives up to what is expected.

I was able to use my sassy Mother Lode all summer. I took it to the mountains of Wyoming and loaded it down with boots, a helmet, and scores of rough and ragged jeans and tops.

I then took it over the pond to the Netherlands and packed it full of cooler weather layers and outerwear. I was so glad that I did. In June it was hovering in the lower 60s and I needed every layer that I brought. I realize this photo could really be anywhere- so you’ll just have to take my work for it in that this is a shot from the airport in Amsterdam. See what great shape it’s still in?!

Then again I had the opportunity to use it in Michigan. We went for the week in August and I was packing for myself and the boys. So this bag was filled with clothes for three little misters, and myself. Could it be done? Are you kidding!? This is the Mother Lode! As you can see, there’s still a bunch more room that I could have used. However- knowing how a trip goes to see two sets of grandparents, I left some extra room. Moms have to think ahead for these things..they’re so lucky to have me.

Is it pretty clear that I love this bag and think it’s the best thing besides my husband to schlep around my stuff? Because it should be. I love how the bottom is durable and tough- yet the top is soft and has that easy access pocket. Kind of like a turtle shell. I thought that the two straps on top that could be adjusted were fantastic for keeping the bag secure and as compact as possible. Also, the handle at the opposite end of the roller handle was a nice surprise. You never know when you need to grab your bag and this handle was a fantastic help getting it in and out of the car.

The Mother Lode TLS Junior comes in six snazzy colors and is currently under $160 AND has free shipping! It has been given 4.6/5 stars on eBags and is one of their ‘Best of the Best’. I highly recommend you also read the feedback on the eBags site- and also see the specs for air travel. I checked it each time I flew because I already had a purse and a laptop bag- so you do need to keep that in mind. I personally didn’t have much use for the interior dividers since I use my packing cubes- but they’re super easy to remove and replace whenever you’d like. That outer, top ‘turtle’ pocket is fantastic for those items that you don’t want to mix with your clothing (think shoes, etc) so that was enough of a divider for me. I also put a quick change outfit in there when I had an overnight stop and didn’t want to have to dig through the entire suitcase for a change of clothes.

Overall- perfect bag. If my husband needed one we’d get a second and that would be all we needed to take overseas. I can imagine taking this bag on our weekend trips across Europe for the 5 of us and that’s it.

That bag is sweet! I love the color too!! I need to save up for some new luggage. Mine is trashed from travelling so much with work.

It’s a hard core bag. I’m really optomistic that it will get us from A to B all over Europe!
