And around here, happy little feet begin with our gentle hands. Hands that meticulously craft each and every shoe for the utmost in comfort and fit. Hands that simply know how to make a better children’s shoe. So, what makes a better children’s shoe? Years of experience working with age-appropriate lasts, patterns and buttersoft leathers give Umi a step up over everyone else. At Umi, all we make are children’s shoes, and we believe every step your child takes is as important as their very first.
Comfort • Style • Trust
It’s that time of year again! We’re all in the throes of back-to-school this and that, looking ahead to cooler days and more rough-and-tumble clothing for our kiddos. I am trying to figure out how and what to stock up on for the boys- each will be in (or have already started as in B’s case) school this year. My dilemma this time around though has been what to buy for the guys that will be long lasting, durable, and able to keep up with them once we cross over the pond and check into a much cooler and more damp climate in the Netherlands.
When I checked out the fall line of Umi’s big boy shoes, I was taken right away with the shoes that were waterproof or water resistant. If there’s one thing I know- moving over to Holland it’s going to be much more rainy this fall and winter than we’ve seen in years here in South Carolina. I closely took a look at the Oleson shoes in dark navy ($70) because they were water resistant. I mean, come on- could I have found a better shoe for jumping in the puddles as we walk and bike to school each day?
Crafted from Umi’s patented water resistant UmiTex technology, Oleson is a classy solution to those school days when the weatherman is calling for a chance of showers. Available in two handsome shades, with two adjustable hook and loop strap closures.
Besides appearing as if they might last through all three of my little men, they have that stylish Umi look and ease of getting them on and off himself. I love them!
We ordered these easily online using their handy little pdf shoe size chart. You don’t want to go messing around and guessing sizes. Print off the chart and measure each foot so that you’re sure you get the correct size. Also note that Umi takes into consideration the whole ‘room to grow’ philosophy. If you order up a size- I promise you they’re going to have more room than you need, so go based on the size given in your chart. I was a little too generous with my size estimation- but they’re still close enough to be worn now as well as this fall and winter.
These are our fourth pair of Umis and ALL THREE BOYS have worn the three previous pairs of shoes. B & L have been the only lucky ones to get them brand new (my poor little sweet feet C!) – but I think that’s really saying something to be able to pass shoes down through three boys. Sure you might be saying $70?! I don’t even spend $70 on shoes for myself! And I get that. But I wouldn’t mind paying that price for a pair of shoes that are going to earn their wear. Mompromise. These are good shoes.

I think I’d have to get the Moabb if I won, because they’re waterproof and they’re high, both of which are necessary for rainy Oregon winters! Plus my oldest is growing out of his shoes at an alarming rate. He went from a size 9 to a size 10.5 in just three months. Ack!
