The Week In Review #iPPP

by farrah on October 18, 2012 · 19 comments

So many things went on this past week. I honestly can’t say if I am coming or going these days- so to participate in the #iPPP I simply looked for some of the better shots on my phone. My heart has been heavy- and Friday I have quite a downer of a post to share- it’s about Napa and Henry- our dogs. I’m going to save Friday for them, so please know I’m not ignoring that situation. It’s still a bit much for me to deal with as it is. End result for them- they both found fantastic new families.

At the top of the past week our new mini van arrived! Ahem. Correction- my new cargo bike that is replacing my beloved mini van. I am embracing the Dutch culture folks, and these are our new day-to-day wheels. The school should be 5 minute bike ride away- and the butcher and baker (possibly a candlestick maker too) are in usually in the the center of the village or neighborhood. This is how I get around, folks. My balance is still a work in progress, but coming soon is a complete review of this absolutely fantastic Madsen cargo bike.

Next up we have me in the never-ending saga to sell our belongings. I realize that donating them would be so much easier.. but at the same time I want to get something for them and since I’m hooked on reselling it appears I’ll just keep doing it until the end. Yesterday I sold this chair which I always thought was so crazy. I had it in my bedroom.

And there was the big 2nd birthday. Chase woke up and found one of these in the guest room- which proves that kids have an inherent desire to put bows upon their head regardless of age:

And lastly, Monday night we had the cake. Sticking with the Disney theme of the past few weeks- I ordered a Mickey cake which I think looks absolutely awesome. What I later learned, is that black icing is NOT awesome- so that will be the last time we ever do that.

Many ups, some big downs- and we have 12 days to go as I type this on Wednesday evening. I am really starting to rethink how great an idea this move really is for us. Sigh.

Thanks as always to Greta & Julie for the #iPPP linkup 🙂

Oh, Farrah. I’m sorry about your dogs. I’m glad they went to good homes, but the picture you put up of them even made me sad.

On a lighter note, I adore that faberge egg chair!! And let me guess….after the black icing….green poop? Purple? Or was it actually black? Those first couple of diapers after a party are always fun.

That chair was a rare find indeed! And so comfortable! My husband secretely hated it, I know he did 🙂

And I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE ICING!!!!! My kids weren’t into cake. So you can imagine my surprise are the shamrock surprise waiting for me.

Wow — great post! So sorry about your dogs. I got stuck on that sad thought for a bit, BUT, then I saw that bike! Wow — I love it on so many levels — so good luck with that 😉 And…we’ve been there on the frosting thing as well — our mistep was a bright blue frosting one year. Our kids pooped sky blue for several days after the party! Good luck with all of your upcoming tasks!

Thanks Shannon- yeah- you could totally rock one of those awesome rides too you know 🙂

You’ll be fine!
When we moved to Canada there was so much excitement and preparation and in the end an almost empty apartment and only 8 suitcases left… And just before we made it we were so exhausted that we started having doubts as well.
Trust me when I tell you it will be fantastic. It’ll be crazy, but fantastic. And in the Netherlands you can get a nice fat doobie around every corner, so that’s your back-up plan 😉

LOL. I wish. Hey, kids- can you just chill for a minute? Sure!!!! Thank you thought- hoping to survive this.

I just want to drive down there and help you. I swear, if I didn’t have two teams to coach and one headed into playoffs next week…it would be a road trip! I don’t know how you are doing this all. Please know that I am sending good vibes and prayers to you every single day!

Thank you. Your vibes must be coming through because I am surviving. XOXOX.

Oh, it has to be so hard to be getting ready for a big move! I feel like I would be a lot skinnier if that were my ride 🙂 The Mickey cake is super-cute, but you’re right – black icing shouldn’t exist. And I’m sorry about your dogs.

The stress over all of this AND the bike are turning out to be the best weight loss program ever. And yeah- black icing… never again.

Love that picture of you and the bike. Nerdy fact about me: I love to watch HGTV’s International Househunters. I feel like you are going to live out my fantasy. And my youngest has a birthday near Halloween. When he was young, I ordered a creepy cake with spooky stuff (and black icing) all over it. I know exactly what you mean. It even affected the color of the stuff that filled up his diaper. Ugh.

12 farrah October 19, 2012 at 2:52 am

Oh YOU KNOW it did. And I was not expecting it! Tell me to wear a special color and I will as a shout out to you 🙂

OMG that bike is HELLA cool!!! Did the kids love it? I totally want to ride in the back 🙂 A friend of minr in Belgium totes her kiddies around in one and I have always been so jealous lol

Hmm, let’s see… I want that chair because I love funky furniture and I’m sure you already know how absolutely precious your babes are. LOVE the mouth full of cake! lol

The kids do love the new ride- although I don’t think they will feel quite so positive in the rain and winter. Gonna toughen them up 🙂

Love the pics. I don’t have the patience to try and sell my stuff. I always end up donating it. Maybe I need to work on that?

Good luck preparing for your move. Hope it goes well!

Thanks for stopping in! Yeah- I have donated SO much too, and at the end it’s going to be a free for all. I feel like this is a full time job.

I know this is where the hard parts are in your journey, but soon it will be behind you and you will be enjoying the adventure again. I’m glad the pups have a new home.

But really, you knew better than black icing, right? 😉

18 farrah October 19, 2012 at 2:56 am

No, I didn’t but LESSON LEARNED!! Seriously- that was like butt staining green. Why don’t cakes come with a disclaimer?!?!

19 Julia October 19, 2012 at 6:06 pm

I love the cake. We made a similar mistake with navy blue icing. Never again.
