The Birthday Shirts

When Brody turned two, we were in Michigan visiting family and both grandmothers had bought him the very same ‘Birthday Boy’ tee-shirt in a 3T. I’m pretty sure it was from Meijers or somewhere local- because really what were the odds that both of them would end up with that shirt? Anyhow- he wore one of the shirts which was a wee bit large, and I saved the other one. Because, I’m either a pack rat or just really, really smart.

The Birthday Boy tee-shirt escaped any kind of cake-stain, and was still in like-new condition when the twins’ second birthday rolled around a year later. Considering one was never worn, and was like-new, guess who wore them in our family fall photos last October?

And now, considering that the shirts WERE 3T (and a little large for that matter) you know they’re wearing them this year. Yes, yes, I’m very proud of myself for hanging onto these two accidental birthday shirts. Even if it means that the Dutch people are all going to look at my kids like they’re crazy since no one wears ‘birthday’ shirts here in the Netherlands.

photo-268At school today. They’re THREE!

I’d be remiss not to thank the blogger who posted something about DIY Birthday Shirts the other day. She talked about to how much money she saved by making her own shirt… and, well. I just gotta say that I think we got a pretty good run out of our shirts too- for free. Or maybe this just means I am the biggest hoarder around. I haven’t decided yet.

Their official birthday is Monday, which starts a week long fall holiday here. Somehow that doesn’t seem like the way *I* would choose to celebrate, but whatever.

Have a great weekend! We’re road-tripping to ‘The Jungle’ in Germany. Nothing says fun like spending your kids’ birthday in a bathing suit surrounded by strangers.

Hehe…love the shirts and way to be a hoarder! I’m with you. And shame on the Dutch for not sporting the t-shirts. Everyone deserves recognition on their day.

Thanks! The guys were so excited to show them off. I think I might let them wear them every day this weekend since we’re done with them after that!
