Cool Things: Melissa & Doug Scratch Art

I give credit to my mother in law. I was looking for an easy and fun thing to let the kids do at the birthday party- and she found these. Melissa & Doug Scratch Art packs were a big, huge hit with the kids. My boys especially are really nuts over them- B at 5 more so than his 3-year-old brothers.

For €4.99 you get a pack of 4 ‘color reveal Scratch Art pictures‘. We grabbed the dinosaur and the farm animals ones for the party, but I’ll tell you that in this house the dinosaur ones are preferred. They will easily spend 30 minutes focused on these things. You cannot put a price tag on that sort of peace!

There is some slight mess since you are essentially scratching off the black to reveal the color underneath- but it’s very, very minor. This is a great distraction for a flight with kids too. You can see near B’s hands the black ‘flakes’ that come off. Seriously, not a big deal at all and I can easily see a plane full of flight attendants preferring an occupied child with a little mess vs. the alternative. I mean, come on. That’s some serious concentration there:

So there you go. We found them at our local Oisterwijk bookstore, but being Melissa & Doug I would assume you could find them anywhere.

Nothing to disclose. I do not have a working relationship with Melissa & Doug toys, I just thought these were really cool.

Man, I remember making these things when I was in elementary school. It was so much work coloring the paper, then painting it with soapy black paint, but I loved the finished product. I love – love – love that someone makes them ready to go. I bet they’d be good on flights, too.

I barely remember these sorts of things. I think we did ours with layers of crayon, and the top was black???

I think the dinosaurs would be preferred in our house as well 😉 I like that you don’t need to tote around 48 colors of crayons since the color is already there – bonus!
