My Favorite Netherlands Blogs

by farrah on May 27, 2014 · 26 comments

Yesterday I happened upon a great expat Netherlands blog by stalking my friend Ace on FB. Well, I wasn’t really stalking her- but I saw her show up in that ticker thing of mine liking a post from Expatica NL’s FB page which brought me to this other blog. See how much fun social media can be? I find cool stuff every day and just keep trying to filter out the nonsense.

Going DutchThis photo should probably be classified as said ‘nonsense’.

Ok, so since I was really excited to stumble upon Courageous or Crazy, I thought that it might be fun and possibly helpful to list out my favorite NL bloggers- most of them are expats, but not all are US expats. If you’re Dutch, about to move to the Netherlands, or just wish you were Dutch, I encourage you to bookmark this post and check out these great people.

Expats

Ace at Life In Dutch: US expat (Chicago) in North Brabant area. Boy mom, wife to a professor. Ace accompanies us on many of our adventures and she does a great job on her site with crafty things (and more). Ikea reviews, recipes, travels, and her own Etsy shop included.

Olga at The European Mama: Polish mom with a German husband living in the northern part of the NL takes on recipes, parenting and social issues of being an expat. Many great posts and helpful info for language and parenting.

Amanda at Expat Life With A Double Buggy: British mom to three boys (high five!) who has been living in the NL since 2000. She’s located in the Zoetermeer area, and writes about everything from parenting to adapting to Dutch life as a Brit.

Caitlyn at Olympic Wanderings: I like Caitlyn even though she’s free as a bird and causes me to long for my 20s. An Aussie living in the NL, she travels and writes about her experiences that I can only imagine.

Ute at Expat Since Birth: A woman after my own heart- she has a son and twin daughters. She’s from all over, so I can’t really pin down what ‘kind’ of expat she might be.

Renee at Dutch Austrailian:  Renee is an Aussie as well blogging what it’s like over here for her in the land of cheese. I love her Facebook page in particular- she always seems to have fun nuggets to share.

Tamkara at Naija Expat In Holland:  What does Naija mean? or “did she misspell Ninja”? Naija or 9ja simply means Nigerian. It is a home-grown word used to describe everything Nigerian. Tamkara writes about many things that impact her on social issues as well as parenting. Truly an interesting take on the Dutch life!

Zoe at George With Ears: Zoe is an English woman married to a Dutch man with a Spanish dog and rapidly growing baby. She likes to rant and swear and is really funny! I love her use of photographs too. And the swearing parts.

Natalie at The Birth Photographer: Brit expat living in The Hague, she is an extremely talented photographer who tells stories with her photos. The newborn pictures bring back so many good memories! (Although thankfully I am cured and my ovaries are not tingling.)

Deepa at CurryStrumpet:  Deepa is from Manila living in Amsterdam. Her colorful blog covers motherhood, travel, home, and some pretty awesome creative projects.

Rina Mae at Finding Dutchland:  Rina Mae is a Filipino- American writer currently living in the Netherlands with her Dutch husband and two-year old son. She blogs about family lifestyle offering inspirational and educational material for parents, covering parenting, expatriation, cultural musings, travel, and style.

Monique at Mo’Travels: Monique is the kind of person that you look at and wonder: How does she do it?! A world-marathon runner, super traveler, and US expat in the Netherlands after 16+ years. I’m happy to say I’ve met Monique and she’s as nice in person as she seems on her blog.

Jessica at Tiptoeing Through Tulips: Jessica is an US expat from Texas who moved over with her husband and four children to a small village not far from me here in Oisterwijk.

Lana at Smart Tinker:  Lana has a wonderful website full of educational information with kids. She’s from Manila and lives here in the NL with her kiddos. A great resource for anything educational activity related!

Donna at Bardsleyland: An expat living in Amsterdam, she has a great sense of humor and blogs about the funny side of life over the pond. I love her writing style and ability to have fun with everyday life.

Catina at Amsterdam Mama: A self-proclaimed “….retired Southern Belle raising two Dutchlings in a kingdom far, far away.” She and I both have SC in common. Aspiring writer and mother, she’s doing her best keeping it all together.

Dutchies

Kay at Kayotic Kitchen: I somehow happened to find Kay on Twitter. She’s a Dutch woman living in Gouda who has serious photography and cooking skills.  She’s sort of my dream come true in the kitchen as I think some of you know my struggles with cooking. Ahem.

Emiel at Act of Traveling: The sole dude in my list, I met Emiel over a year ago at a travel blogger’s conference. His website is very travel focused- and a wonderful resource for going to places like Ghent. He’s Dutch and a really nice guy. If you’re going somewhere he is a wonderful person to consult before your trip in case you have any questions.

Dutch Ties

Melissa at Lots About Stuff is primarily a vlogger who shares all kinds of crazy things. I met her all too briefly last summer when she was ‘looking’ to move over with her Dutch husband and daughter. I’m still waiting for her to get over here! Check her out, she’s funny and a very talented photographer.

Marloes at Dutch Days French Ways: Marloes is Dutch, living as an expat in France. We ‘met’ over Twitter and she’s a lovely person with a fabulous blog. I keep hoping that someday she and I can meet for coffee when she comes home to visit!

Lynn at The Nomad Mom Diary: Lynn is an American who used to be an expat in the NL, but is now living in Oxford, England. She’s very funny and I can only imagine how interesting her accent must be.

Also, the FB stalking/discoveries are amazing. I’d be lying if I said that I hadn’t found things from you by poking around social media… 😉

Ha! The best thing is that we’re a-ok with admitting it 🙂 I have to check out your screens post. OMG, I went through that last year. Esp. after someone came pounding on our door saying the twins were hanging out the window.

Farrah!!! You’re awesome! Thank you for including in this post. My husband just signed a contract that has us moving to Holland in 8-12 months depending on how the work goes. In July we’ll be in Holland and I was thinking that while my husband has some meetings maybe we could meet up for an afternoon playdate?!

One expat in the Netherlands blog springs to mind that you didn’t mention – Stuart’s Invading Holland is also a great entertaining read! http://www.invadingholland.com
